"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013." 34/52 Sofia:  Just over the past week you've started speaking in sentences that I never thought were possible from such a tiny person. You're quick to remind your sister to "top touching my zebra!" and making me incredibly proud with your exclamations of "mumma I GOTTA GO!" Potty training is well underway in our household and has been going very well. I'm not trying to get my hopes up for anything too soon, but I will say that I've never been more excited to see pairs of My Little Pony underwear strewn about and less dirty diapers in my wastebasket.  Success! Alba:  My sweet, ever so worried little girl. Your facial expressions just slay me when I take you somewhere new, when you hear an unfamiliar noise, (especially) when your papa talks in his scary funny voice or your sister cries at the top of her lungs. Oh my heart! You look to me for reassurance and your...

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013." 33 / 52 Sofia:    We're experiencing the last of the joyful days of summer together, riding around on Papa's shoulders and feeling the wind in your hair. We've been talking a lot about this beautiful city of ours lately, whether we could picture ourselves moving up north in a very tall building or moving further south where we'd have a yard and the safety of a neighborhood. You're so curious and so adamant to walk by yourself and "no!" you don't want to hold mama's hand one bit. You make me nervous, and you make me smile. Experiencing two and all the quips and quirks that go along with this silly age has kept your father and I on our toes with our thinking caps firmly on. Alba:   Ball of squish, our newly-turned three month old. These past months have absolutely flown by and I often find myself scrolling through folders of photos from your birth, your firs...

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013." *Looks around sheepishly* So, the thing is, I have been playing catch-up for (missed) portraits last week.  Everything and nothing has been keeping me away from my computer lately, and as you can see, things have been extremely eventful.  I'm beginning to think I'm quite the boring mum!

in the city : heritage bicycle general store

This is our brand new favorite place for coffee in Chicago.  Nestled in a quiet neighborhood street up in the north side of the city, Heritage Bicycle General Store is a must visit, family-friendly hang out spot. Make sure you order a hazelnut latte with an almond croissant or glazed and infused donut to go with. More of our favorite recommendations, In The City .

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013." Sofia:   I have been so proud of you this week.  You came down with a virus and had to use the nebulizer for the second time already this year. Since the last experience, you completely surprised me and were such a good girl at the doctor's office. You didn't cry, you sat still, and fell asleep in my arms before we even left the office.  Thankfully, you're much better now. Alba:   Since it was World Breastfeeding Week, how could I not celebrate by showing you as you are now, nursing as you please, preferably wrapped up next to me.  My biggest challenge has been keeping you out of your sister's germy grasp.  Keeping a virus from spreading to everyone in the family is tough work! As always, joining in with the lovely Jodi .
