REMEMBERING NOW, APRIL 26TH

the remembering now project, 2012. catch up on the rest of the series here . In light of her top two teeth starting to make their appearance, Sofia has been more drooly than ever. This is also the first week we accidentally left our amber teething necklace at Grandma's house :/

IMPERFECTLY PERFECT

(Photos originally from this shoot Jusina) I almost never posted these photos.  When I got them back from being processed, my negatives were ruined- it was partially my own fault, I had taken them to a little shop where the quality wasn't good but I knew I would get them back faster.  Initially the streaks from the way they were scanned really bothered me, but for some reason today I just can't bear to let them sit in a folder on my hard drive.  There is something to be said by learning from mistakes, not always following the rules, and admiring the things that do go right. More to come! Have a great Friday, friends.

A NEVER ENDING LOVE STORY

Today Sofia and I went to a park, and she enjoyed her favorite pastime -- swinging.  We try to travel to as many different parks as we can to keep it interesting.  I am positive she's loving every minute of it.

A QUIET MORNING

Being able to take my time in the mornings was something I always treasured.  It would often be later in the afternoon - sometimes around eleven or twelve.  I would slowly crawl out of bed and head out to brunch with my husband.  Never too early, and never too rushed.  Now at the strike of half-past seven, I am greeted at a (much) earlier time.  A tiny person who hears the tiniest beginnings of birdsongs and first glimpses of sunlight makes sure that I too, am up to greet the day. I mentioned in an earlier post how routine is so important to me, this is especially so for the start of my day.  I will tip-toe while half asleep to Sofia's room and sing her the song I made for her to wake to.  We groggily dance in the early morning sun and put on a fresh pair of pajamas.  If I'm lucky, we can make it back to our room where I'll try to catch a few extra minutes of sleep before my hair is being tugged, eyes are playfully poked, or drool has dripped on my cheek fr

HAPPY MONDAY! - AND OUTTAKES

(thanks to hubby for capturing this face!) I thought it might be funny to show you one of our "outtakes" from the Bertie shoot this Monday.  As you can see, teething (and nap time) started getting to our little model toward the end. ;) This was most definitely one of our busier weeks, and after I return from work today, I'll be happy for a bit more breathing room for a few days. Chat soon!

WEDNESDAY FAMILY DAY - ON TRADITION

On Wednesdays, and almost certainly every Wednesday, we have kept a high standing tradition of spending the day together as a family.  When Erick and I were newly dating years ago, we coordinated our days off so we could spend one day a week together to lay around lazily and if we were lucky, grab a bite to eat.  Once married and with children, things have happily stayed the same-- something I'm eternally grateful for.  This week, we were off to Oak Park again for a delightful vegetarian lunch at Munch , which is a fantastic and eclectic little joint off of Marion St.  This little town is quickly becoming a regular favorite of ours, mainly because getting there is easy and walking around on nice days is even more enjoyable. I'll admit, some days it really feels like our time together ends too quickly no matter how hard we try and fight it.  Erick has been working steadily on multiple filming projects and I couldn't be more proud.  I'm excited to see wh

FIRST EVER GIVEAWAY! - JONAH AND THE GIRL

Real talk.  I have a serious crush on Australia. That's right.  The whooole thing. To us in the states, they live in the future.  They have some of the nicest people you will ever meet.  They are swarming with talented creatives.  They have among some of my favorite blogs on the internet... ahem, that's you  Jodi , Tim , Kellie , Tamara ,  Tricia ... (to name just a few!)  And now, made possible from one amazing children's company, I am giving away some seriously can't-miss gear. It would be impossible for me to name just one thing I loved about Jonah and the Girl and the lovely people behind this project.  Using the words "beautiful simplicity" as their catch cry, this little sister company is the labor of love of husband and wife team Scott and Amy Hawkes.  A story of putting kisses on the feet of little ones, Jonah and the Girl has released its first collection of canvas shoes called 'Bertie', a simple unisex style avai

LET'S CATCH UP, SHALL WE?

(silly photo of me saying, " whaaat?"  by the husband ) Hi friends. I wanted to take a minute to catch up together and fill you in on a few new things! To anyone new to our space, thank you for visiting and I'm glad you're here. You may have noticed the look around the blog has been much simpler and clean. It's something I'm trying to do not only in just the blog, but with my life itself... a bit of a spring-cleaning, if you will. My Facebook feed filled with "friends" I haven't talked to in ages, a twitter name that no one could pronounce or understand, blog columns and categories I couldn't keep up with, even pressure to post when I know I should just be enjoying my time with my family. The list is seeming never-ending for a lot of us out there, and I just wanted to be honest and say that I too have gotten "stuck" one time or another, and here's a few things I did to streamline my way out of it: • Keep as many t

MUST VISIT CHICAGO: KINGSBURY STREET CAFE

Kingsbury Street Cafe 1523 N Kingsbury Street Chicago, IL 60462 Near North Side After meeting with my health coach, I was hungry for brunch and craving something that wasn't too over-the-top indulgent.  I had heard great things about this new cafe (that happens to be on the most torn up street in Chicago), so after my session we headed over to this lovely new jem.  I have to say, just after walking in I could already tell we were in for a great experience.  The interior is light, airy, modern and roomy.  Perfect for anyone with a stroller so you don't feel like an asshole walking in with your kid.  The food was delicious -- even some vegan options!  We will definitely be back, and if you're in the area I wholeheartedly give my recommendation. Why You Should Visit • Absolutely kid friendly • Zen-like interior • Fantastic brunch • Eco-friendly water and compostable cups Good To Know • No lot, street parking only • Make reservations on a weekend

EASTER SUNDAY

Friends, we had such a great Easter with the De La Rosa side of the family.  I hope all of you enjoyed your holiday and aren't in too much of a sugar-induced coma.  ;)  We actually took it easy on the sweets this year, and are feeling quite well! Yesterday was such a wonderful day.  It's been a while since we've had a Sunday all together as a family, and I can say we are all feeling refreshed, renewed and ready to conquer the week!  I'll be back with some new and healthy recipes and an update from my time with my holistic health coach . Things have truly been on an upswing around here, and we are thankful and much appreciative.  Life is good.
