letting ourselves go

Out of all the beautiful forms of yoga, tantric- or more specifically anusara, has been most appealing to me not only for the deep relationship between the body and mind, but also for its rooted philosophies regarding expansion.  If I haven't turned away most readers by now, please, don't worry.  I don't plan on talking over your head or losing you in a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, but only to share how my life has been influenced. For me, life has been anything but predictable. So many things happen around me at a pace I can barely catch up with.  Every day sends a slew of emails and correspondence, daily household chores, a child that needs so dearly my love and attention, a husband too kind and considerate to let me know he needs more time alone to finish up endless freelance projects, healthy dinners that need to be cooked, hours at my other part-time job that need to be worked, a birthday party to be planned... the list will continue to go on, and I'll spare you. ...

CAN WE TALK ABOUT GROCERIES?

Okay, so I may be getting a little too close and personal for you all right now-- I feel like looking into someones fridge is a lot like peering into the darkest depths of their soul.  As a family of three, we have all the usuals necessities like milk, eggs, juice and the occasional bottle of wine.  (Totally acceptable).  My problem however, lies in the fact that when I go to make dinner I magically have nothing to prepare.  This dilemma I believe is twofold, not only am I shopping incorrectly and spending too much on things that don't get used, but I also haven't done any menu-planning for the week. One thing I'm certain is that spending close to $10 a day or more if we buy our lunches/coffee/snacks while we're on the go definitely doesn't help my cause.  It's troubling to know that I've spent well over what I've needed to, and all the while I have a seemingly empty-- yet so very full--  fridge!  It has been driving me bonkers.  What gives?...

THIS WEANING STUFF IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST

Things have been running at a slow pace this week.  For as much as I've taken the time out for myself by running, working out, going to yoga and taking extra long bubble baths I still can't seem to shake this feeling I've got going on.  I'm moody, I've been more anxious than I've been in a long while, and really, just feel incredibly out of sorts.  The only thing I can associate this with could be the natural weaning that's happening between Sofia and I. This stuff is hard.  No one really prepares you for it.  The books I've read have no *disclaimer* that I would fall into a depressed and panicked state out of nowhere.  I thought that I chose when I wanted to be done.  Because guess what?  I'm not ready.  And I'm sure if Sofia had her way, she wouldn't be done either.  However, despite my consistent battling, my body has gradually been making less and less milk between Sofia's overnight weekends with her Grandma and my wor...

CONFESSIONS: SORRY WE'VE BEEN M.I.A.

If you can tell by these photos how messy our house is, I'm sorry.  I've realized that even though it seems like it shouldn't matter, clutter really effects your inner calm and happiness.  We've got a lot of cleaning to do but as you've noticed- usually for two days over the course of the weekend through Tuesday- I'm never on the blog.  Childcare for us right now has been split graciously between both Erick and I's parents, and that means on Sunday and Monday when my family watches Sofia, we have to stay the night since they live so far away.  It's not the easiest arrangement for any of us right now, but hey.  At least its free. This is the first time we've ever run into a problem where we can't find a sitter this week, and it has me stressed out to the max.  They changed my schedule at work to a day I'm not normally on, so everyone we usually have watch her already has something planned.  I'm not sure I feel comfortable eno...

SETTING GOALS

I've already decided that 2012 is going to be a great, colorful and positive year.  I don't really want to make a "resolution" I know I won't stick with.. but as far as a few goals for myself?  Why not.  Here's a quick list I've come up with.  I think it's pretty attainable. / take more freelance gigs / wear more color / launch a paper shop / get back into yoga / go to a festival / take a (short) get-a-way / get outside and hoop / let my daughter explore / stay positive There.  See?  Not too bad.  I know it's only January and we're all blinded by the hopes of the shiny and new, but I really have high hopes for this year.  I can't wait to see what's in store for all of us. ............................................................................................................................................................ PS- want to get your goals listed too? Email me what you want to accomplish in 2012 and I...

2012 | CONTINUING TO CONNECT THE DOTS

I can say to you all that, without a doubt, 2011 has been the craziest and most action-packed year I've had yet.  I mean really- who gets engaged, then married, and also has a baby not only in the same year, but crams these three MAJOR LIFE EVENTS all in the same WEEK!? Sometimes I still can't even believe Erick and I DID that.  We made it through all of what I like to remember as, the time of 'the joyful chaos.' THE PART WHERE I LEARNED ABOUT WEDDING CAKE I reflect back and realize we may not have done things the socially acceptable "right" way, and still, I think there are things I would have done differently had I been given the chance to do it all over... (IE actually invite people to our wedding and have a stupid wedding cake to eat!)  Totally didn't realize how much I actually wanted all of those traditionally 'normal wedding things' until my melt-down last night as my brother and sister in law ate their wedding cake with family.  I ...

BREASTFEEDING | SIX MONTHS LATER

For Sof and I, this breastfeeding journey has been such an amazing experience. I can't believe it's been half a year already! I figured I could check in and give you all a peek into the way we've been doing things, especially since I've been reflecting on it lately.  It hasn't all been perfect, and it's definitely a learning experience. I hope sharing my story will help other moms and future moms that come across the same issues. Looking back at what's positive: Sofia was breastfed exclusively her first 3 months of life.  Besides her short bout with jaundice when the hospital ordered us to supplement, she remained formula free until I went back to work.  Half a year later, we're still breastfeeding 3-4 times a day.  We'll continue on with this schedule until she's older and starts getting teeth-  but the best part has to be that Sofia still prefers the breast to any other method of eating, and I know she's getting the nutrie...

CONFESSION: I'M ASKING FOR HELP

Well, I don't usually do this.  In fact, I wasn't sure I was going to post this at all but it's really worth a shot.  I don't want to give anyone a big long shpeal about anything, I just want to make it simple: This blog started and still remains a personal adventure, but my main goal outside of having a cool keepsake is to impact other people.  I want to inspire some other young moms.  I want to say, you know what?  You can change those diapers and wear your skinny jeans too.  It's okay to be yourself.  Life does change when you have a baby-- but it's always for the better.  And even if you lose yourself somewhere out there in the crazy motherhood panic, I want you to know that it's okay.  You'll come around.  You'll realize you never really lost yourself at all, you've been there all along. Through this past year I've gained a handful of followers, and even some readers around the globe.  I want to spread the word, I want t...

CONFESSION: I NEED SOME CLARITY

Alright guys, here's a confession-  I need a little clarity with this blog.  It has really taken a back seat to just about everything in my life lately, yet, it's one of my favorite things to take the time to update!  Something has got to give.  I'm going to make more of a concious effort to stop being unmotivated regardless of how many hours I'm putting in at my job.  Being unmotivated sucks.  And really, I'm at my last straw! Speaking of things that I've been sitting on my haunches with... I am so glad none of you have ever had to come visit me at my place- it's a mess.  Seriously.  It's the 'clutter everywhere', dishes in the sink, dirty floored, piles of junk, messy, messy house that I'm ashamed to say I'm raising a family in at the moment.  This "lack of motivation" bug that I caught seems to hit me a couple times throughout the months and I'm at the point where I'm bursting out of my seams to get things right thi...
