"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013." Spring has sprung and we finally felt some of the warmest weather we've had all season.  Flowers are beginning to bloom wherever we go, and your fascination toward the colors and smells is something that makes my heart burst just watching you take it all in.  You love nature, to be outdoors.  Now that we finally have had the opportunity we've been making the most of it - all three (and a half) of us.  My beautiful girl, may your innocence and fearless spirit stay with you. linking up with the beautiful jodi

edna adan : giving back for mother's day

I wanted to share a truly incredible project with you that has inspired a great interest of mine - the Edna Adan University Hospital in Somaliland. As the last few days pass by before I will give birth to my own baby, I couldn't help but feel compelled to share how so many women and babies in Africa won't have a safe place or knowledgeable staff to assist in their own childbirth experiences. My friend Lacy from Living on Love has partnered in this project with her friend Jennifer to design the beautiful print you see above to help fund the continued growth of one of the only hospitals in Somaliland making a true difference in the healthcare for women and their babies. From the hospital: "The health of the people of Somaliland is among the worst in Africa, with one of the highest Maternal and Infant Mortality rates in the world. Every year, one baby in eight dies in infancy while nearly 4000 Somali women die in childbirth. This tragedy can be attributed in larg

spring : sights

Over the weekend I spent a bit of time wandering through the conservatory in Lincoln Park for a photo session.  The flowers were beautifully blooming in the elevated greenhouse temperatures - quite a welcome escape from our recent weather.  Chicago has been flooded after a few days of non-stop rain leaving many with flooded basements, the absence of hot water or heat, and impassable roads to drive on.  We're lucky we weren't affected other than having to re-route ourselves on the commute to work, but many others weren't as fortunate.  Sending lots of positive thoughts to those that are still struggling to clean up after last week's storms.  We are ready for sunshine.

" A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013." Having a lunch picnic together in the middle of the floor.  Simple and savory with a mix of tangy beans, scrambled eggs, fresh avocado and toast with jam. We both munched and chatted over the speaker playing a mix of some of our favorite songs, you would take "gentle sips" of your juice and I still laugh that you look over for my approval before you grab the cup by yourself.  I love you, I love you, a million times over.  It's all about these little moments and memories we're making. linking up with  jodi

bump : week 35

The dwindling days of late pregnancy are coming to a close, and all the time we thought we had left to finish up the tiny details is quickly passing us by.  As of today, I am thirty-six weeks and three days.  It has completely taken me off guard that many of you have checked in with us, making sure we're okay - especially since it's been a few weeks since we've jumped back into the series . To everyone that's said hello, we thank you. We're still here, just busily trying to stay on top of things around the house, meeting up with and put finishing touches on sessions with photo and video clients, taking the plunge into a brand new career (more on this later!) and basically just playing a  giant  game of catch up! It has been raining here lately.  Lots of rain.  While I'm thankful for the stormy weather and Spring's appearance around Chicago, we haven't had many opportunities to be outdoors for many of our portraits. We've made

"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013." Cheeky smile, your favorite pants, your favorite window seat.  Mama has put up a late portrait this week, and you've been extra needy for both of us, not wanting to sleep in your own bed or take your naps when you're supposed to.  Your papa and I think it's because you know the baby is coming soon. We love you so much and sometimes it's even a little heartbreaking to know you might be going through a transition, but we're here for you and know how good of a big sister you're going to be. joining in with jodi

amber + billy | puerto adventuras, mexico wedding

This was hands down, the most fun I have ever had at any wedding. And coincidentally, also the only wedding I've ever seen a bride take a bite out of her own cake... with nothing but her face.  I can't love them enough.  How could you not!  I mean really. The wedding took place off the Caribbean coastline of Mexico, home to crystalline aquamarine seas, sandy white beaches, balmy weather, salty air and sunsets more beautiful than any I've seen.  I'm so happy I can finally share with you a selection of photos from their day, and I really wish I could show them all.  (Narrowing this one down was no easy task!)  I hope you all can see the immense amount of love shown from both sides of this truly incredible family.  Erick and I were both honored to be a part of such a beautiful ceremony.
