hearth

My incredibly talented friend across the pond, Tricia , has started a fantastic online magazine highlighting creative arts and people from all over the world.  Hearth is something I've been excited about from the beginning, and now I'm so so happy to share that I was allowed to share my story as a featured artist . This is such a happy day for us!! If you haven't had the chance to see what Hearth is all about, definitely keep your eye on this. Tricia is the mastermind behind all of these incredible side projects, and has something new in the pipeline for little kid photographers, too! In only two more sleeps now, Erick and I will be heading to Boston to visit his brother and sister-in-law and we couldn't be more excited. I've never been to Boston, and have barely spent any time in the east coast at all so this is a much needed, mini-vacation for us... though, I am sad to be leaving the little one behind. Family vacation somewhere warm will be next on the ...

welcoming fall: hiking together

A while back, I had posted about dreading the change of the season.  I was so caught up in my whirlwind of a summer, the beautiful weather, the bare feet, the music and late night dancing in the wilderness, camping, and vacations that I barely remembered or welcomed the un-rushed pace that comes with the beginning of fall. Living in the middle of the city has been a blessing for finding new, exciting and bustling places to eat and explore, but so many times I'm wishing for the opportunity to do something a little less... urban .  I grew up in the country, and Erick, in the city- so now we've been doing our best to give our child the best of both worlds. We took a drive about 40 minutes south of the city to a little place in the suburbs and welcomed the crisp and cool air that kissed our cheeks as we embarked on a tiny adventure in the forest.  Hiking with a toddler is such an enriching exper...

in the city: publican quality meats

A craving for sandwiches instead of brunch, this weekend we ventured to a spot in the heart of the industrialized, hip party of the city. Publican Quality Meats is a sister company of one of our favorites for a gorgeous dinner, The Publican . Specializing in charcuterie, pastries, sandwiches, and boasting an ever changing menu, PQM is the perfect casual dining experience.  One of my favorite features was the upscale grocery market featured on the inside of the restaurant.  All the meats used in your meal you can order to-go straight from the butcher-- still kicking myself over not bringing some thick cut bacon home for breakfast.  Ah, next time! I've been thinking lately of compiling all of these places we've visited in the city to make it easier to research and find... definitely an upcoming organizational project I've been working on in terms of the blog.  I hope to have a more steady flow of columns here, after a year of writi...

remembering now: park playtime edition

The remembering now project, 2012. Catch the rest of the series  here . For as long as I can remember, I've been only shooting one or two photos for this series. I'm strongly compelled this week, however, to show much more. We went to the park just muma and daughter this past Friday and  while it was a bit unusual being without our normal playdate, it seems lately we've been spending a lot of quality time together, just her and I. The bond Sofia and I share at this stage in her life is stronger than it's ever been. I remember back to the teary weaning days , when I thought the unexpected end to our breastfeeding journey would push us further apart- how very wrong I was. Things are so amazing right now, sometimes it's even hard to put into words... the biggest change has been actually hearing her say my name as "muma". For a full year, I was "baba," or "bama," but never an arms-outstretched-I-need-...

second shooting: brooke and andy married

I had the opportunity to second shoot for brilliant photographer friend, Justina Olenick  a few weeks ago and these were some of the images I was able to capture. One of the funnier weddings I've been to, Brooke, Andy and their wedding party brought good humor and lots of jokes to the day!  I always enjoy second shooting, especially being able to take a few steps back and watch the day unfold at a more relaxed pace.  Justina recently started a new blog and created a Facebook page , so you should definitely be following along to see more updates from this wedding as well as all the other beautiful sessions she's captured. Happy weekend to all of you!
