MARRIAGE: MOTIVATING EACH OTHER

I wanna talk about motivation.

You're only doing your husband or wife a disservice when you let them just sit in their lives unchanging and stagnant.  This is the person you promised to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for better or for worse... so kick their butt into shape, man!  Now just to be clear- motivation is always respectful, never spiteful.  It's never "hey fatass, lay off the chips ahoy," but "okay, monday- me and you have a date at the gym".  If  you're not constantly reevaluating not only your own goals, but your partner's as well, you're not helping each other become the best possible version of his/her self.  And (trust me) it's okay to fall into the trap of staleness or resting on your laurels sometimes, but you just have to know how to motivate each other to help get out of those slumps that we all fall in.

If I don't surround myself with people that are constantly just "doing" things I personally tend to get unmotivated.  I think it helps that I married a highly motivated man and have highly motivated friends.  If Erick isn't working at his job, he's making music, singlehandedly trying to start his design and production company, or working on cover art and logos for up-and-coming artists.

He pushes me to do better.
To be better.

Erick and I have been separated by our work schedules a lot this week and it's been tough on us.  We need to make time for our marriage and family while still managing to grow as individuals.  I think that every second we get we are evaluating each other... seeing how we feel... what we can do to help one another out.  Even though we may not have all the time in the world, we have the right foot forward.  We're making lasting impacts and asking each other to give 110%.  He's kicking my ass.

  1. So true... a spouse can be such a motivation. I love what you wrote in that first paragraph. There are so many times when I'm frustrated on a project or struggling with an exercise plateau and Chris pushes me forward. I'm so thankful for husbands.

And I'm sad I didn't catch you (and little Sofia) at Renegade, too!! We'll have to plan some sort of meet up soon!

Easter Weekend

Hello! Happy mid-week to you. This is the roll of photos we shot over our Easter weekend , and oh what a wonderful weekend it was. It was so nice to have family here to visit - even if the weather was cooler than we anticipated! We visited the redwoods in Felton, ate vegetarian burritos, went to the epic shoreside in Montara, and the brewing company in Half Moon Bay. Our hearts are full and our home is feeling quite empty now ;) As a side note, I've found a renewed love with film. This is a post for another time, but it bears mentioning here! There has been much on my mind re: photography, and hopefully this will be the space I can share that. For the curious, all the above were shot on a Nikon FM10 with Fuji Superia 400 speed film.

mum + bub skincare review + giveaway!

Happy Wednesday to all of you!  It's my favorite day of the week. Today, I spent a lazy day at home with the girls and one thing we all enjoy doing when we get a little stir crazy is to hop in a bubble bath together and relax for a bit. I've always bathed with my girls, its an experience I know I'll cherish looking back on forever. When the wonderful people at aden + anais asked if I would review their new mum + bub skincare line, I immediately responded with a resounding "YES!" If anyone knows me, you know that I've already purchased every single swaddle they've ever made because I think they are the best things ever. I use them for everything under the sun: nursing covers, sleep blankets, sun shields, carseat covers, play blankets, and yes of course to swaddle Alba up at night. Knowing how much I already loved this company, I just knew that any avenue they pursued would have to turn out amazing - I was right. Today I'm g...

welcoming fall: hiking together

A while back, I had posted about dreading the change of the season.  I was so caught up in my whirlwind of a summer, the beautiful weather, the bare feet, the music and late night dancing in the wilderness, camping, and vacations that I barely remembered or welcomed the un-rushed pace that comes with the beginning of fall. Living in the middle of the city has been a blessing for finding new, exciting and bustling places to eat and explore, but so many times I'm wishing for the opportunity to do something a little less... urban .  I grew up in the country, and Erick, in the city- so now we've been doing our best to give our child the best of both worlds. We took a drive about 40 minutes south of the city to a little place in the suburbs and welcomed the crisp and cool air that kissed our cheeks as we embarked on a tiny adventure in the forest.  Hiking with a toddler is such an enriching exper...
