HAPPY 8 MONTHS, SOFIA!

Well, we're a tad bit late on the monthly photos, forgive me!  The beginning of February really got the best of me, but now with my birthday over and Valentine's upon us, I've had a second to snap a few photos of my growing daughter:

HIGHLIGHTS
This month, Sofia has been starting to string her constants together, ("ta-ta, phl-phl," and what Erick is sure was "da-da.")  I'm not so sure, though! ;)
She also has been eating thicker textures, army crawling all over the house, clapping her hands to the english and spanish versions of "patty-cake" and waking up a little earlier in the morning.

STATS
Weight: 23 lbs. 99% percentile
Height: 71 cms. 90% percentile
Head: 44 cms. 84% percentile
*right on track for everything, we're super happy.

Honestly, I'm almost in shock that it's already been eight months.  This entire first year of hers has flown by even though I've been holding on to it so tightly. Before I blink, she will be turning a year old already, we'll be helping her destroy her first piñata, and she will be face-first in birthday cake.  What a whirlwind these months have been, full of happiness, tears, struggle and accomplishment.  Erick and I are so proud of everything Sofia is becoming, and everyday are reminded of how blessed we are to have such a happy and healthy baby.

Week 27 Update

Hello fellow internet peoples.  Decided to give a HD video update for the beginning of my third trimester.  (WE SO EXCITED!)  It was a ton of fun to make, this time we were at home in Chicago.  Erick had a bunch of lighting equipment after all the interviews he did with the chicago school councils, so before he had to ship them back we took full advantage ;)  I'm learning more about codec and h.264 and prores 422 and although it makes absolutely no sense to me, maybe it will be useful knowledge in the future.  What do I know? It was obviously a very gesture laden, emotional, 10 minute interview.  I hope you all enjoy it.  It really is longer than I expected but instead of completely chopping it up, I decided to leave it how it is.  It's pure, natural, pregnant-y goodness of brain farts, odd humor, and searching for the right words.  If you make it to the end, remind me to give you a gold star or something.  I'll do it. ** A ...

bump : a thank you

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome on our littlest growing member of the De La Rosa family - we are so lucky and blessed, that is for sure!  Lots of time has been spent the past few weeks celebrating with friends and family, though a certain "weight" has been lifted now that it's truly out in the open.  (Ahhhh...)   Erick and I knew right away that this go-around, we were going to try everything we could to have the birth we wanted, so we've switched our prenatal care from a standard OBGYN practitioner to one of the only midwife groups in the state.  Although it is becoming more common, midwives and water births are still extremely difficult to come by.   In Illinois specifically, there are only two birthing centers in a 50 mile radius willing to offer this to us - and one of these didn't take our healthcare plan.  It's crazy how many long nights were spent researching on the web and phoning out to different practices, but I am so happ...
