autumn: sights and sounds

The crunch of the dead leaves on the ground, late blooming flowers, a mid-conversation snap of the little one...

This is what our autumn looked like the past few days.

I loaded up the grocery basket with every single root vegetable imaginable, with my lofty plans for soups, pies, and even an impromptu purchase of eggnog.  It's silly, but no matter what type of mood I'm in, when I head to the market or our local Whole Foods I can instantly be cheered up... I sure do love food.

This was also such a wonderful week for budding, new friendships.  Katie, who I've known and loved from Off Switch Magazine, is such a delight in person.  I first "met" her at the Renegade craft fair, complete with an awkward hug on my side.  This time, though nervous, I think I held it together a bit better as we sipped on our tea and coffee.  After our meet up, I immediately went home and jotted down new ideas for the blog, and tried out some grain-free recipes on the family.  She is quite the inspirational lady!

We are most definitely ready for the weekend, though.  I know I planned on sleeping in a bit later today and spending more time cozied up on the couch with a cup of tea... it's been an interestingly busy week for both Erick and I.  We could use all the extra rest we can get!

(PS- the eggnog was good, though I don't see myself drinking humongous glasses of it anytime soon.)

Any fun weekend plans for you?  Do tell...

  8. I love shopping for food. But this is coming from someone who thinks a good date night involves sharing the same cutting board and stovetop with her husband. :)

  10. I had an impromptu purchase of egg nog, too! (does it taste better when it's impromptu?) I'm not much of an egg nog drinker but a friend of mine said she mixed it with their eggs instead of milk for their french toast and said everyone loved it so I wanted to give it a try.
    I love her little pigtails!

the birthing of alba mae

From the beginning, this pregnancy seemed so much the same, yet so distinctly different all at once. I didn't get sick, I wasn't too turned away by my favorite foods, I had occasional heartburn here and there and overall, was able to relax and enjoy the experience.  What was strange was how differently I was carrying - having been told more times than I could count that I had looked as if I had "swallowed a basketball".  I think I was persuaded a few times in my head that maybe this was  different, maybe it really was a baby boy.  Yet still, in my heart I had an overwhelming intuition I would be holding another little girl in my arms, someone so very similar to her sister yet so distinctly different all at once. My little may flower. Saturday night, the air was warm and sticky.  Sofia, Erick and I read stories by a big window fan in her room trying to distract ourselves from the heat in our upstairs apartment. ...
