mum + bub skincare review + giveaway!

Happy Wednesday to all of you!  It's my favorite day of the week. Today, I spent a lazy day at home with the girls and one thing we all enjoy doing when we get a little stir crazy is to hop in a bubble bath together and relax for a bit. I've always bathed with my girls, its an experience I know I'll cherish looking back on forever.

When the wonderful people at aden + anais asked if I would review their new mum + bub skincare line, I immediately responded with a resounding "YES!" If anyone knows me, you know that I've already purchased every single swaddle they've ever made because I think they are the best things ever. I use them for everything under the sun: nursing covers, sleep blankets, sun shields, carseat covers, play blankets, and yes of course to swaddle Alba up at night. Knowing how much I already loved this company, I just knew that any avenue they pursued would have to turn out amazing - I was right.

Today I'm going to highlight on a few of the items sent to us from an honest point of view. I am never compensated to write up a review, so we're keeping it 100% real.  Let's get down to the nitty gritty:

THE HAIR + BODY WASH

The first thing I noticed was how these products smell distinctly of sandalwood.  Not overly-woodsy like sandalwood can often be, but much softer with a hint of vanilla. Perfect for a baby, a toddler, (or mom!) I love this scent. All of these products are natural and made without parabens, petroleum oils, phthalates, gluten, soy and any other nasties we don't like to have in our household. Cleansing with mainly the pawpaw fruit extract, the shampoo and body wash combo was gentle yet effective. If you're looking for lots of suds, as with any natural cleansers, this may not be for you. If you're used to gentle soap, you will love this.

THE BODY + FACE LOTION

This lotion was amazing.  We've used it for a good month now, and a little goes a long way.  It's thick without being greasy, yet it absorbs like silk into the skin.  The scent isn't overpowering, and your baby still smells like, well, a baby. It's survived many tumbles and curious toddler hands pumping out way more than needed - another A+ in my book.

THE SOOTHING OINTMENT

How did I live without this product for so long? Out of everything we tried, this was the resounding favorite with all family members. We have used it for diaper rash, chapped lips, soothing ow-ies, dry skin, and even on some strange rash Erick got under his arm.  Talk about a multi-use product! This stuff is liquid gold. The scent on this is slightly more vanilla than the other two products and I like it the most. I will be recommending this to all mums-to-be and pretty much everyone I know.

So, the best news of all is that one lucky Diapers & Skinny Jeans reader gets to take home the entire line of mum + bub products: a hair and body wash, ultra-gentle lotion, and a tube of the soothing ointment. 27. Having read this I thought it was rather enlightening. I appreciate you finding the time and energy to put this article together. I once again find myself personally spending way too much time both reading and posting comments. But so what, it was still worth it!

Easter Weekend

Hello! Happy mid-week to you. This is the roll of photos we shot over our Easter weekend , and oh what a wonderful weekend it was. It was so nice to have family here to visit - even if the weather was cooler than we anticipated! We visited the redwoods in Felton, ate vegetarian burritos, went to the epic shoreside in Montara, and the brewing company in Half Moon Bay. Our hearts are full and our home is feeling quite empty now ;) As a side note, I've found a renewed love with film. This is a post for another time, but it bears mentioning here! There has been much on my mind re: photography, and hopefully this will be the space I can share that. For the curious, all the above were shot on a Nikon FM10 with Fuji Superia 400 speed film.

At Home In California

I've gotta tell you, I was in no way truly prepared to make this move. We checked and double checked, we read all the helpful articles online, we had our things shipped and boxed, and while they were packing up all that we had in Chicago, we realized quickly that we were bare-bones equipped for a proper "adult" home. Erick and I met in our young twenties, our partying show-going, dancing till the wee hours days. I didn't have a piece of furniture when we moved in together. Our hand-me-down love seat grew much too small for our family of four and when visitors stopped by (which was a very rare occurrence, I might add... but still... preparation is key!) we just never had anywhere for them to sit. So many memories of people happily squeezing their bums together on that love seat while others awkwardly paced our floors probably wondering, gee, can't these people just figure their seating situation out already?! Enter California. Our stuff arrives, nearly a mon...

Hello, It's Me

* screeeeeeech.... opens door * Hello? Are you in there? I'm baaaaaaack! Holy shnikeys! It's only been a good two years or so. Talk about a blogging hiatus. So, after many many failed attempts at fancy Squarespace sites and having absolutely zero direction on which way I wanted to go, I found myself right back here. Good 'ol blogger. Good 'ol free simple template. Good 'ol feed with all my old friends. It's been a long, long time. And it feels weird! But I'm dusting off the cobwebs anyway and just writing because I need to. Plain and simple. Now, a few things-- the blog title is a bit different. My kiddos are nearly three and five years old so diapers [thankfully] are a thing of the past. Hallelujah! And if you haven't heard, folks, skinny jeans are out. They're done! Bring on the bellbottoms, culottes and 90's fashion revival. You heard it here first, everyone. Just wait.  Also. Growing up. I kinda laugh at how much...
