Thank you all so much for the warm welcome on our littlest growing member of the De La Rosa family - we are so lucky and blessed, that is for sure! Lots of time has been spent the past few weeks celebrating with friends and family, though a certain "weight" has been lifted now that it's truly out in the open. (Ahhhh...) Erick and I knew right away that this go-around, we were going to try everything we could to have the birth we wanted, so we've switched our prenatal care from a standard OBGYN practitioner to one of the only midwife groups in the state. Although it is becoming more common, midwives and water births are still extremely difficult to come by. In Illinois specifically, there are only two birthing centers in a 50 mile radius willing to offer this to us - and one of these didn't take our healthcare plan. It's crazy how many long nights were spent researching on the web and phoning out to different practices, but I am so happy with our choice, and especially fond of our midwife, Lia.
This week has been the perfect ebb and flow of relaxed, yet busy. I have been finishing up my Christmas list, working on the last of my wedding and family sessions of the year, taking some quiet moments to jot down a few new features for the blog in 2013, chasing my always on-the-go 18 month old, yet somehow, still managed to sneak in an hour long bath tonight- unheard of!
What were you up to this weekend?

ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to be at the "relaxed" stage... trying to force myself to slow down a little bit, even though Sofia constantly keeps me running! ;) Thank you for stopping by. xo
DeleteAw Kate you look absolutely beautiful and so happy! So glad you were able to find a midwife and birthing center!! When we decide to have baby number two we'll be in the same boat.
ReplyDeleteLet me know, I can definitely make some recommendations!
DeleteCongratulations! What great news! You look amazing!
ReplyDeleteEee! Thank you! We are beyond excited right now :)
DeleteJust beautiful. I had midwives and hospital births with my first two. I just delivered our third baby at home in water with two midwives after doing lots of research. It was amazing. I can't believe he is now three months old. You will have a wonderful experience. Midwives have a special gift.
ReplyDeleteXx
Three months already? Bless...
DeleteI (almost) can't wait to be in labor again! Am I crazy? But you're right, so far the experience with the midwives has been much more personal and relaxed. I feel like my time is valued, and my thoughts are heard. Very important x x
Being able to read your experiences will make me want another. I wrote all about my birth on my blog if you want to read. Especially about my midwife connections. I miss them. Xx
DeleteYayayayayayayayay!
ReplyDeleteSO happy and SO jealous you are going to be giving birth. Its an amazing experience.
HA! We might be the only ones on the planet that actually look forward to it... ;) Thank you for the love and excitement. Can't you come up and visit sometime?
DeleteOh Kate, you are beautiful! Also, I just had to go back and read Sof's birth story again... which totally made me cry, not kidding. You went through so much to bring her into the world... I have a feeling that baby #2 will be smooth(er) sailing. So exciting!!!!
ReplyDeleteMotherhood looks good on you<3 I'm so happy that you were able to find a midwife. The search can a little daunting at times! It's amazing how different the laws are in each state regarding childbirth and home-births. I felt such a relief when I finally made a decision for us. I'm looking for a doula this time. I'm sure you're already on top of things but if you're looking for a few books to read a friend of mine recommended to me The Thinking Woman's Guide To A Better Birth and Ina May's Guide to Childbirth ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm still curious about this AA business!
Thank you, I couldn't believe the search would be that difficult! We are thrilled to have found a great practice. Please let me know how it goes with the doula, I've heard great things! And I will most definitely be picking up those books...
DeletePS- AA is helping "clothe" our maternity series! I can't believe it! I have to get going on it, we've been so crazy these few weeks that I haven't been able to get out and take any photos yet. (Plus in all honesty, I am not a fan of being on the other side of the camera lens) ha!
What a relief to finally let the cat out of the bag! I couldn't manage keeping such a big secret to myself ; )
ReplyDeleteI was about to burst!
DeleteCongratulations to your growing family! You are so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much xo
DeleteOh so so happy for you all. It is just the most wonderful feeling isn't it....adding a fourth family member :) I too had a little inkling....just from some words you left over my way :)
ReplyDeleteI had my dear little Millie almost 6 months ago here at home. Also made the switch from having private OBGYM with my first and it was best decision I made. Love my midwifes (although only our doula made it!) Oh me too.....I was so excited all the way through my pregnancy to birth my baby! I really think a positive mind makes all the difference. My birth story is on the blog if you feel like hearing a positive (& fast) birth experience :)
Those pictures of you are simply stunning....so real and just so gorgeous Kate
Natalie xxx
Natalie, I can't wait to go see the birth story- and so quick, too right? You lucky thing. xx

ReplyDeletewow, i can't believe how hard it was for you to organise midwifery care! i was pissed off that having a homebirth wasn't easier! gosh, it really is hard here in australia so we're going to a birth centre. are you hiring a doula? xo
