Before we all got sick, we got the chance to head out to Bengston's farm out in the suburbs of the city for pumpkins, caramel apples, hay-rack rides, haunted houses, and a chance to feed some furry friends.

While we still have so many great memories from all of Sofia's very first holidays last year, the second time around you can tell how much more aware she is of her surroundings and how she understands what's happening.  The joy is real, the experiences are beginning to form memories, and oh, how funny it is to hear her call every animal she sees a "puppy".  (We're kindly trying to introduce cow, sheep, horsey, and others into the mix!)

I really love the fall, I've been getting so excited-- maybe overly so-- about the upcoming winter time and being able to spend more time with the family I haven't seen in a while.  My grandmother can cook an amazing turkey, and I'm already gearing up for sweet potatoes and green beans and everything that comes with this time of year.  I may have already put on Christmas music while cleaning the house, too... but we'll just forget I said that until November at least ;-)

    This looks like the perfect place to start a fall family tradition! This is one of my favorite DASJ posts so far... partly because I love fall, but mostly because I love Sofia's hat.

Easter Weekend

Hello! Happy mid-week to you. This is the roll of photos we shot over our Easter weekend , and oh what a wonderful weekend it was. It was so nice to have family here to visit - even if the weather was cooler than we anticipated! We visited the redwoods in Felton, ate vegetarian burritos, went to the epic shoreside in Montara, and the brewing company in Half Moon Bay. Our hearts are full and our home is feeling quite empty now ;) As a side note, I've found a renewed love with film. This is a post for another time, but it bears mentioning here! bump : week 22

I've said it before, but if I could pack up and move my entire family straight into the By The Barkers studio space, I would. Absolute heaven! As for our little one, he or she has been giving me strong, swift kicks - especially around bed time.  Waves and ripples dance across my belly as I lay in bed waiting, watching.  I'll admit, it's been difficult for Erick and I since we've decided to keep things a surprise as far as the gender.  We were both so used to the feeling of knowing with Sofia that it's made this pregnancy a completely unique experience.  My intuition keeps swaying back and forth wondering if this little one is a boy or girl, and judging by the way that I look, feel and eat, my best guess is that we have another little lady on the way. (Though, if you ask Sofia, she's already told us she thinks baby is a "bruh-der")  !!! Mamas out there, was your intuition right? Any tell-tale signs or...

welcoming fall: hiking together

A while back, I had posted about dreading the change of the season.  I was so caught up in my whirlwind of a summer, the beautiful weather, the bare feet, the music and late night dancing in the wilderness, camping, and vacations that I barely remembered or welcomed the un-rushed pace that comes with the beginning of fall.
