"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013."

We're running behind as usual, but today I have something special planned.  I've realized that the moments where it will only be the two of us together without a new baby in tow are drawing to a close, so every opportunity I get, I try to make it as special for you as I can.  I hopped in the shower and naturally you followed suit and requested to come and play with me.  Today, I will take you on a date.  Just you and me.  We will go and get warm, flaky pastries at a nearby cafe while I sip my coffee and you spoon out your own bites of foamed milk.  Later we will pick up your Papa and cook dinner together, as night begins to fall.  There will be couch cuddles, story time, back rubs and maybe a late-night dance party.  I know we can't completely prepare you for the changes yet to come, but everyday we hope to show you just how much you mean to us.

As far as my favorite 52 portrait from last week, it would easily be Jess's little one that seems to be maturing much too fast before our eyes! Sigh...

Joining in with the ever lovely Jodi.

it's harder to balance things when you have two but it also gives a sense of a bigger family and it's also so beautiful to see their love for each other.

  10. is she spunky in real life? she comes off spunky to me in her portraits. like she has the best personality! always seems to be smiling - and it's contagious!

i feel like it's been a while since i've visited your blog - though i was able to sneak a quick peek at your latest baby bump photos. again, so real. i just love each and every week more than the last (i don't know if that's really all that true, the beach portraits might always be my favorite)!

oh my goodness, your words this week. i know baby no.2 is coming much more quickly for you than for me but i had my first bit of panic the other night when it really sank in that my little natalie isn't going to be my only pride and joy anymore. i even asked sean, all dramatically, "what have we done?! can we handle this..?" and now every chance i get, i'm squeezing that little toddler of mine and wishing this pregnancy goes as slowly as possible! (unheard of!)

  15. beautiful. i loved what you wrote. i just had my second child 3 months ago and i rememeber those moments realizing that soon it will no longer be just me and him. soon we will have to split the time we spend together and it broke my heart just a little bit every time i would think about it. i will have to say that it has been easier than i thought it would be and i fall more and more in love with watching my son snuggle and love on his new baby sister. it's a whole new adventure. :) good luck with your remaining weeks!

the birthing of alba mae

From the beginning, this pregnancy seemed so much the same, yet so distinctly different all at once. I didn't get sick, I wasn't too turned away by my favorite foods, I had occasional heartburn here and there and overall, was able to relax and enjoy the experience.  What was strange was how differently I was carrying - having been told more times than I could count that I had looked as if I had "swallowed a basketball".  I think I was persuaded a few times in my head that maybe this was  different, maybe it really was a baby boy.  Yet still, in my heart I had an overwhelming intuition I would be holding another little girl in my arms, someone so very similar to her sister yet so distinctly different all at once. My little may flower. Saturday night, the air was warm and sticky.  Sofia, Erick and I read stories by a big window fan in her room trying to distract ourselves from the heat in our upstairs apartment. ...
