barefoot winters

My husband - and others, I'm sure - think I am quite the crazy person walking around in my summer moccasins after a snowstorm.  Rightfully so, I suppose.  My feet are bare, unfazed by the harsh temperatures or the occasional icy piece of fluff that sneaks its way into my shoe. Summertime and the laid-back mentality that comes with it simply havnen't left my heart, and some days is the only thing keeping my seasonal grumps at bay.

This winter has been all about just making it through.

Most times I can appreciate and welcome each season as it rolls in, but winter this year has been exceptionally hard for myself and for those around me.  I find comfort in knowing that in just twelve short days we will welcome a new friend, Spring, and all the new beginnings she has in store for us. The world will come alive again.  The flowers will bloom.  The dry, barren land will be quenched of its thirst, and we will welcome a new life into the world.  I will sway in my hammock and watch as my city garden becomes a reality.  It is so close now!

There is a certain joy that comes with seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and suddenly these last few days don't seem as hard.

  1. I really love the perspective I get from hearing about the winter months over on your side of the world. Right now I am fed up with being hot and sweaty and these 30+ degree days (Celsius)are glorious but I am yearning for some cool relief. Do you not start the change of seasons on the first of the month? Ours change on the first of every three months, so we are 8 days into Autumn here!

    1. Every day I fall in love with your side of the world more and more... this is all so fascinating to me. We follow calendar equinoxes and solstices, and the seasons change accordingly. They're different every year I believe, and are based on when the earth tilts on its axis. Very strange!

  7. Haha, it looks like you have a ton of Australian readers :)

I'm totally with you (as you know!) I can't wait for spring! My winter blues have totally taken over, that's for sure, as much as I'm trying to stay positive. Maybe I need to swap out my boots for something a little more summery...

  9. The snow is gorgeous to look at, but its beauty stops there. I look forward to planting my vegetables and flowers, to lighter clothes, a lighter mood, and a lighter belly!

  12. Ha I did the same when we went to visit some local snow a few weeks ago. Well, but it was flip flops. There's just something about preserving the bright cheer of warm Summer months, it's hard to put aside for the gloom and cool of winter gloom.

Appreciating all the beautiful photos and lovely words lately, a flood of inspiration while I'm stuck in a creative rut. Hugs!

bump : week 23

The sub-zero weather has kept us indoors, but it hasn't kept us from having the most amount of fun possible.  I've been enjoying hot cups of tea served with teaspoons of sugar and condensed milk, curling up with my favorite blanket and enjoying the tap-tap, nudge-nudge of the littlest De La Rosa.  Though I find myself playing catch up yet again (I'm 24 weeks!) I'm not complaining in the least bit.  I've had this little family of mine all to myself for a full four days with no work, no emails, no agenda and no pressure.   Ahhhhh... happy winter celebration, little baby. PS- did you know Erick finally launched his website ?  It's up, it's responsive, and it's gorgeous. I'm a proud muma bear.
