It's better to be safe than to be sorry

Today was just like any other Wednesday OBGYN appointment day, we went in and waited for Dr. Kim to check the size of my belly and listen to our little one's rapidly beating heart.  Everything went great, she's been right on track this whole pregnancy.  We've been very fortunate to have had a fairly easy pregnancy with no complications.

Then, the list of questions came:

" So how you feeling? "
     .... good.
" Any contractions yet? '
    .... no, not yet.
" How are those feet and ankles? Are you swollen? "
   .... nope, everything looks good.
" What about movement, she still keeping busy? "
.... well, *pause* i think her sleeping pattern may have changed.

And right then and there is where I went wrong.  I thought it was normal for baby to change her sleeping pattern as I wasn't feeling her much during the day anymore but more with her dance parties at night, however my doctor didn't exactly feel the same way.  Any decrease in movement around 34 weeks they take very seriously at her office--- even if nothing really is wrong.  Better to be safe, right?

Well, 'safe' is requiring me to come in for twice a week appointments now to do non-stress testing and ultrasounds.  The bonus?  I get to see bubs a lot more often.  I'm glad they're being extra cautious, even if it was only just a shift in her sleep regimen.  We're so close to the end that it's just not worth it to not be safe.

Proving how smart you are already, silly girl.  Keep passing all those tests.

Week 27 Update

Hello fellow internet peoples.  Decided to give a HD video update for the beginning of my third trimester.  (WE SO EXCITED!)  It was a ton of fun to make, this time we were at home in Chicago.  Erick had a bunch of lighting equipment after all the interviews he did with the chicago school councils, so before he had to ship them back we took full advantage ;)  I'm learning more about codec and h.264 and prores 422 and although it makes absolutely no sense to me, maybe it will be useful knowledge in the future.  What do I know? It was obviously a very gesture laden, emotional, 10 minute interview.  I hope you all enjoy it.  It really is longer than I expected but instead of completely chopping it up, I decided to leave it how it is.  It's pure, natural, pregnant-y goodness of brain farts, odd humor, and searching for the right words.  If you make it to the end, remind me to give you a gold star or something.  I'll do it. ** A ...

bump : a thank you

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome on our littlest growing member of the De La Rosa family - we are so lucky and blessed, that is for sure!  Lots of time has been spent the past few weeks celebrating with friends and family, though a certain "weight" has been lifted now that it's truly out in the open.  (Ahhhh...)   Erick and I knew right away that this go-around, we were going to try everything we could to have the birth we wanted, so we've switched our prenatal care from a standard OBGYN practitioner to one of the only midwife groups in the state.  Although it is becoming more common, midwives and water births are still extremely difficult to come by.   In Illinois specifically, there are only two birthing centers in a 50 mile radius willing to offer this to us - and one of these didn't take our healthcare plan.  It's crazy how many long nights were spent researching on the web and phoning out to different practices, but I am so happ...
