"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week in 2013"

Sofia: Actually seeing and understanding the concept of snow, or "nooo!" for the first time.

Through all of our memories this week, this was most definitely my favorite. The way Sofia cried when I told her and her dripping, red nose that it was time to go back inside was a good indicator of just how much she loved it.  You know, I never thought there would be a day when I could say honestly that a Chicago snowfall had put a smile on my face, yet here we are.  Times are a-changing.

Stay warm, everyone!

(Or if you're in the southern hemisphere, stay cool...)

  1. Beautiful Kate! Chloe loves playing in the snow too and I love how excited she gets to explore the world around her, it makes you look at everything so differently.

  2. she seems to be enjoying herself so thoroughly! also, it occurred to me today that there will be another little one added to this series soon enough and i really can't wait to see that come to fruition!

also, i wanted to say that your post previous to this resonated so completely with me, it was as if i was reading my own writing. why must winter linger (ha! it's only been two months... oh my)

but, mostly, to relate to another in feeling we aren't quite as perfect or successful than those whose blogs we read... and trying to remind ourselves that, like us, they're only sharing the good, understandably so. it really is nice to remember that we all have different things we're faced with.

  5. Found your link via the 52 project.

Oh my, your blog is lovely. My husband and I used to live in Chicago too, so looking through your photos makes me miss Chicago (the city mostly, not the weather). I feel like you're a kindred spirit just by browsing through your posts. I've found a new favorite blog.

    Cheers.

  11. I love the bright pink hood against the bleak backdrop. Snow seems so very strange to this southern-hemisphere mid-summer mamma. I can't wait to one day show my little one snow, I can only hope he has such an excited reaction as Sofia.

  20. Snow can be miserable but sometimes there is a little bit of magic hidden in it. A few of my favorite childhood memories are of playing in the snow - and the warm socks, blankets and cocoa that would follow. I love all of sofia's little hats. So cute.

Week 27 Update

Hello fellow internet peoples.  Decided to give a HD video update for the beginning of my third trimester.  (WE SO EXCITED!)  It was a ton of fun to make, this time we were at home in Chicago.  Erick had a bunch of lighting equipment after all the interviews he did with the chicago school councils, so before he had to ship them back we took full advantage ;)  I'm learning more about codec and h.264 and prores 422 and although it makes absolutely no sense to me, maybe it will be useful knowledge in the future.  What do I know? It was obviously a very gesture laden, emotional, 10 minute interview.  I hope you all enjoy it.  It really is longer than I expected but instead of completely chopping it up, I decided to leave it how it is.  It's pure, natural, pregnant-y goodness of brain farts, odd humor, and searching for the right words.  If you make it to the end, remind me to give you a gold star or something.  I'll do it. ** A FEW NOTES ** So there is a great shop fea

bump : week 23

The sub-zero weather has kept us indoors, but it hasn't kept us from having the most amount of fun possible.  I've been enjoying hot cups of tea served with teaspoons of sugar and condensed milk, curling up with my favorite blanket and enjoying the tap-tap, nudge-nudge of the littlest De La Rosa.  Though I find myself playing catch up yet again (I'm 24 weeks!) I'm not complaining in the least bit.  I've had this little family of mine all to myself for a full four days with no work, no emails, no agenda and no pressure.   Ahhhhh... happy winter celebration, little baby. PS- did you know Erick finally launched his website ?  It's up, it's responsive, and it's gorgeous. I'm a proud muma bear.
