bump : week 21 maternity series

My prayers have been answered and a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

Our latest appointment brought us the best news: our baby is healthy. As a mother I don't wish for much-- in fact, I've never cared boy or girl, blonde or brown, just always that baby stays put and stays healthy.  With my first pregnancy with Sofia I felt I missed out on relishing in the good moments due to all my constant worry... and how not to worry as a first time mum?  I relied on the advice of my friends, their mothers, my mother, and when all else failed- faith.  Thankfully, this time around I've been learning to let go of my fear and just enjoy the ride.  (But I admit, it's still hard to not worry!)  Spending time together as a family has definitely made me appreciate living in the now, because in just a few short months our family of three will be a family of four.  Unreal!  Erick and I ventured to Chinatown for what we realized was the first night out alone that we'd had in a long, long time.  I pottered about, amazed at the little shops and trinkets while he followed me around.  We're quite used to the stares we get in public between my growing belly and pulling out the camera just about everywhere we go!  The night ended with a steaming bowl of wonton noodle soup for him and spicy veggie noodle for me.  As a first time visit to this side of the city, I can say it was a welcome surprise.

  2. Yay healthy baby! There's nothing better than seeing them squirm around with a perfect spine, four heart chambers, and tiny little limbs. Also, more than halfway there is a relieving feeling and I'm glad you're enjoying this pregnancy because you're right - the first is terrifying!

  3. The photo of you with your coat up by your face?... pure beauty. And yes, what a relief to hear all is well. Although we try our best to remain calm and positive about the health of our unborn, I think as a nuturing, loving parent it is only natural to worry. Take care of yourself mumma xxx

the birthing of alba mae

From the beginning, this pregnancy seemed so much the same, yet so distinctly different all at once. I didn't get sick, I wasn't too turned away by my favorite foods, I had occasional heartburn here and there and overall, was able to relax and enjoy the experience.  What was strange was how differently I was carrying - having been told more times than I could count that I had looked as if I had "swallowed a basketball".  I think I was persuaded a few times in my head that maybe this was  different, maybe it really was a baby boy.  Yet still, in my heart I had an overwhelming intuition I would be holding another little girl in my arms, someone so very similar to her sister yet so distinctly different all at once. My little may flower. Saturday night, the air was warm and sticky.  Sofia, Erick and I read stories by a big window fan in her room trying to distract ourselves from the heat in our upstairs apartment. ...
